Climate Change: The Intersection of Disaster Medicine and Public Health with Climate and Health 

Health impacts of climate change related to the Increased frequency and severity of weather-related disasters require new investments in healthcare and public health to ensure health security 

Medicine (CME) Accreditation Statement 

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Iowa Health Policy Research.  The APHA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.   

Designation Statement: The APHA designates this live online educational activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (s).    

Activity Objectives: 

Identify the impact of climate change on weather-related disasters such as floods, drought, wildfire, and hurricanes.  

Describe the influence of climate change on disaster health communication and protective interventions for health risk communications, science denial, and behavioral effects of climate-related disasters.  

Assess the impact of climate change on health equity and identify key ethical guidelines for use in disasters and public health emergencies.  

Compare the overarching impact of climate change on public health and the medical response to disasters and large-scale emergencies.  

Target AudienceAll Health Professionals who may have a role in Disaster Health, e.g., Nurses, Physicians, EMTs, Public Health Professionals, academic researchers, students, administrators of private and public enterprises involved in disaster response.

How to Obtain CE Credit 
Participants can claim credit commensurate with participation and complete the evaluation online in order to earn credit hours and obtain a CE certificate.  A link to the online evaluation system will be sent to all registered participants who attend the activity that will contain instructions and a personal ID number for access to the system.  All online evaluations must be submitted by February 4, 2022, to receive continuing education credit for this activity.
