SDMPH Annual Meeting 2016: Continuing Education Required Disclosures:
Overall Purpose This 2nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (SDMPH) brings together the diverse membership of healthcare and public health professionals to provide leadership, education and support for continued advancement of the discipline of disaster medicine and public health (DMPH). The meeting theme, Disaster Global Health: Prepare, Respond, Recover sets the agenda to provide perspectives on the global response to large-scale health emergencies, and includes bombings and mass shootings. Presentations on the fundamentals that drive the DMPH discipline include a focus on the universe of responders, disaster education and training and research priorities in DMPH. Participants will also be able to draw on their knowledge and experience by participating in a modified tabletop exercise on the final day.
Learning Objectives: Identify key recent global response efforts for disaster medicine and public health (DMPH). Describe the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Medical Team (EMT) concept. Explain the DMPH response to active shooter and bombing events. Identify categories of disaster medicine and public health (DMPH) responders. Explain DMPH education and training in support of preparedness and response. Discuss the scope of DMPH research in support of preparedness and response. Describe the medical and public health effects of total grid outage on a major city.
Target Audience: The target audience includes physicians, nurses, EMTs, dentists, veterinarians, researchers, and all other healthcare and public health professionals.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Society for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (SDMPH). The APHA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Designation Statement: The APHA designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 16.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (s)™.
Nursing (CNE) This continuing nursing education activity was approved by APHA/PHN, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
How to Obtain CME/CNE Credit Participants may attend part of the Conference and complete the evaluation online in order to earn contact credit hours and obtain a CE certificate. Partial credit will be awarded. A link to the online evaluation system will be sent to participants who attend the Conference after the event which will include instructions and a personal ID # for access to the system. All online evaluations must be submitted by September 7, 2016 to receive continuing education credit for this activity.
